Mrs. Mary Helen Bensing, age 88, of Louisville, returned to her Heavenly Father on Sunday, May 17, 2026. Mrs. Bensing was born in Leitchfield, KY on October 10, 1937 to the late Elza Burkhead and Mary Dupin Burkhead. She retired from assisting on school buses and also helped manage her son’s band. She was known for her kindness and resilience and was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a tiny woman with a huge personality. She never met a stranger.
In addition to her parents, her beloved husband, Joseph Bensing and many brothers and sisters preceded her in death.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her son, Joseph Bensing (Lynn); granddaughter, Ashley; great-granddaughter, Olivia (Anthony); great-great-granddaughter on the way, Daisy Mary-Jo and a host of other dear family and friends.
Funeral service will be held at 1:30 pm on Friday, May 22, 2026 in the chapel of Schoppenhorst, Underwood and Brooks Funeral Home (Preston Hwy. at Brooks Rd.) with burial to follow at Evergreen Cemetery. Friends and family may pay their respects on Friday from 10:00 am until the time of her service at 1:30 at the funeral home.
