Matthew Paul “Matt” Haynes, age 47, of Shepherdsville, Kentucky returned to his Heavenly Father on Friday, August 7, 2026. He was born on February 19, 1979, in Louisville, Kentucky to the late Nicholas and Misha (Catron) Haynes. Matt was an employee of Bullitt County Belting. He coached baseball for Blue Lick Optimist and YMCA. He was known for his hilarious sense of humor. Matt loved western movies, especially John Wayne as well as rock music (Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Lynyrd Skynyrd and Rob Zombie), country music (George Jones and Hank Williams, Jr.), and jazz music (Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin). He enjoyed fishing and hunting, weightlifting, old cars, motorcycles, movies and playing 8-ball pool. He also was involved in Civil War reenactments. His cooking skills were second to none; his family fondly remembers his chili, steak, fried chicken and many more dishes he created. Matt’s true passion, however, was his family; spending time with them, especially his grandson, and creating memories is what Matt held most dear to his heart. He will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved him. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandparents, Dallas and Joyce Catron and David and Jo Ann Haynes; his father-in-law, Robert Rayburn and his uncles, Jackie Pruitt, Tommy Haynes and David Haynes.
Those left to honor and cherish his memory are his daughters, Tahlia Haynes (Scotty) and Shayna Haynes (Lucas); son, Matthew Haynes, II (Mallorie); grandson, Colt Holder; sisters, Christina Houchens (David), Bethany Russell (Joseph) and Gabrielle Vicari (Josh); the love of his life, Bobbie Haynes; mother-in-law, Wanda Flannery; step-father, Brian Manley along with a host of other uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.
Funeral service will be conducted on Monday, August 17, 2026, at 12:00 pm in the chapel of Schoppenhorst, Underwood & Brooks Funeral Home (Preston Hwy. at Brooks Rd.) with interment in Mt. Holly Cemetery. Family and friends may pay their respects on Sunday, August 16, 2026, from 1:00 pm until 7:00 pm and on Monday, August 17, 2026, from 9:00 am until the time of the service at the funeral home.
