Mrs. Nita Jane Murilla, age 62, of Shepherdsville, Kentucky, returned to her Heavenly Father on Monday, September 7, 2026, with her loving family by her side. Nita was born in Louisville, Kentucky, on January 14, 1964, to Hurley Woodrow “Woody” Maddix and Barbara (Wise) Maddix. Nita was a loving and dedicated daughter, wife, Mom, Nini, sister, and friend. She was a cosmetologist by trade, but she spent many years working alongside her husband at Murilla Company Inc.
For 42 years, Nita was married to her high school sweetheart, Vince Murilla. Together, they built a life full of laughter, love, and a notorious good-natured rivalry. While Nita and the Maddix family cheered loudly for their beloved Cardinals, the rest of the Murilla home cheered on the Wildcats, leading to decades of memories.
Nita’s creativity was truly one-of-a-kind. Whether she was painting on a canvas or completely transforming a room with her decorating magic, she saw beauty in everything. Her love of shopping and thrifting fueled her passions. She had a deep love for traveling and exploring new places and was a certified foodie. Though she often preferred to stay out of the spotlight, her bright, joyful wardrobe and incredibly kind heart spoke volumes. She made a massive statement wherever she went just by being herself.
Above all else, Nita’s absolute biggest joy was her family. She was a wonderful Mom to Cassie (Brad) and Jesse (Amanda). The beloved daughter of Woody and Barbara and daughter-in-law to Barbara and the late Vincent. The incredible big sister to Debbie (Timothy) and Chip (Tracey). She also held a uniquely special place in the hearts of each of her nieces and nephews and cherished the time she spent with her family and friends.
But if you really wanted to see Nita shine, you just had to look at her grandkids. As the proudest "NiNi" to Kayleigh, Jaxsen, Maddix, Audrianna, Paisley, and Kinsley, she showed them endless love, showered them in gifts that brought her joy, attended every event, and was their absolute biggest cheerleader.
The world has lost its most beautiful soul, but heaven has welcomed an angel of unmatched grace and brilliance. While she will be deeply missed by everyone who knew her, we choose to look back with smiles and celebrate a beautiful life incredibly well-lived.
In true Nita fashion, her family asks that you honor her memory by wearing your brightest colors and most fun patterns. She wouldn’t want her celebration of life to be any other way.
A visitation will take place on Sunday, September 13, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Schoppenhorst Underwood & Brooks Funeral Home, 4895 N. Preston Highway at John Harper Freeway, Shepherdsville, Kentucky 40165.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, September 14, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. in the chapel, with visitation beginning one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Brookland Cemetery.
