Our world would be forever changed when Norma Ann was born on January 13, 1935, in Hodgenville, Kentucky. She grew up in Elizabethtown and Lebanon Junction, went to work at age fourteen, married at fifteen, and had her three beloved daughters (Sharon, Sissy, and Sheila). Eventually, she established herself in Louisville as a single mother, where she went to work at GE. While there, she met the love of her life, Russell, and the rest was history. The two were nearly inseparable after that.
Norma/Ann was a firecracker. At ninety-one years old and ninety pounds soaking wet, you dare not cross her. But she could be as sweet as she was salty. She never failed to tell you that she loved you…and she could deliver a serious tongue-lashing. She could hold lifelong grudges…and give second, third, fourth, and fifth chances. Her life was filled with complexities: a victim, a survivor, a patriarch, and, ultimately, a treasure to her family.
Norma/Ann was always proud to be “country.” She hated pomp, pickles, mustard, conceit and cheesecake. But she adored her family, her neighbors/friends, Little Debbies, White Castles (no pickles!), her rosebushes and UK Basketball.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Alice Marie Thomason (Miles) and William Morgan Thomason, Sr.; seven siblings, two daughters, Sharon Jean Jackson and Shirley Elaine “Sissy” Hicks (Jackson); her husband, Elbert Russell Stotts; two sons-in-law, Alvey Alfred Harris and Kenneth Edward Hicks; a granddaughter, Stacey Ann Jackson.
Norma/Ann is survived by one daughter, Sheila Ann Moore (Jackson); her son-in-law, Garry William Moore; four grandchildren, Eric Allen Stotts, Russell Ray Jackson, John Michael Jackson, and Apryle Ann Amos (Moore); seven great-grandchildren; two siblings.
