Ollie Gene Watkins

Mr. Ollie Gene Watkins, age 82, of Louisville, KY, returned to his Heavenly Father on November 29, 2021. Gene was born in Little Rock, AR on October 16, 1939, to the late Wilburn Watkins and Bennie (Thompson) Watkins Howell. Gene retired from General Electric and was a charter member of Smyrna Missionary Baptist Church. He enjoyed race cars and drag racing, fishing, making jewelry and knives, growing flowers, scuba diving, working in stained glass, and many other activities he found interesting over the years.  However, most of all he loved his wife, his family, and his church.

Among those who preceded him in death are his parents, and stepfather, Edward J. Howell, and his sister, Ava Nell Ray.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 56 years Janice (Logsdon) Watkins; sons, Robert Gene Watkins (Alisa), and William B. Watkins; brother, Kenneth Watkins (Judy); brother- and sister-in- law, Tom and Sonja Gorman; granddaughter, Abby Maysey; several nieces and nephews along with a host of other family and friends.

Funeral service will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Thursday, December 2, 2021, in the chapel of Schoppenhorst, Underwood and Brooks Funeral Home (Preston Highway at Brooks Road). Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 1, 2021, from 1: 00 pm until 8:00 pm and again on Thursday from 9:00 am until time of service at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.
