Phillip Andrew “Andy” Burkhead, 60, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away on September 23, 2026. Born on February 12, 1966, Andy lived a life marked by loyalty, humor, and an easygoing spirit; that made him a “cool dude” to everyone who knew him. Andy worked for many years at G.E. Appliances, where he was known for his strong work ethic, quick wit, and the ability to make even the longest shifts a little lighter for those around him.
He was preceded in death by his parents Marilyn and Carl Burkhead, whom he loved deeply. Andy is survived by his children who were the pride of his life, Tara Dunagan (Timmy), Andrew Burkhead (Layla), his former wife and friend Melissa Bell, his grandchildren who brought him endless joy, Nathaniel, Natalie, Noah, and Nicholas, his great-grandchildren Jaxson, Gracie, and Brewer, who added a new generation of laughter to the family. He is survived by his siblings, Richard Burkhead (Jenny), Terri Wilhelmi (Dan), and Patti Schott-Cobb (Joe), Andy’s life was enriched by a large and loving extended family filled with nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins - each of whom held a special place in his heart. Andy also leaves behind his loyal companion “Dom” his cherished furry friend who brought him comfort, laughter, and unconditional love. Dom remained faithfully by his side and was an important part of Andy’s daily life.
Andy will be remembered for his laid-back charm, his love for family, and the way he could make people feel at ease just by being himself. His presence made gatherings brighter, conversations funnier, and life a little lighter. His legacy lives on in the generations who follow him, in the stories shared, and in the laughter, he leaves behind.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Schoppenhorst Underwood & Brooks Funeral Home (4895 N. Preston Hwy at John Harper Road). The Funeral Service will be held in the chapel on Thursday, October 1, 2026, with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. and the service starting at 12:00 Noon. Burial to follow at Brookland Cemetery.
