In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Betty McCoy and great grandson, Jaidin Ross.
He was a Christian by faith and a member of Hikes Point Christian Church. He was owner and operator of Bears Asphalt Driveways. He loved to spend time with family and friends. He and his wife Doris loved to travel together and spend their winters in Florida with friends. He also loved his church family.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Doris Bear; his sons, David Bear (Vallarie), James “Jay” Harley ( Robin), and John Harley; his daughter, Jeana Spurgeon; grandchildren, Stephanie Humphries, Chelsea Houghtaling, Hollie Gilbert, Katie Harley, Jamie Harley, Tonya Robertson, Amanda Wallen, Vanessa Spurgeon, Erin Patel, Rachel Harley, Brian Merideth; 17 great-grandchildren along with a host of dear friends.
Funeral services will be at 6 pm on Monday, June 22, 2026, in the chapel of Schoppenhorst, Underwood and Brooks Funeral Home, (4895 N. Preston Hwy) with cremation to follow. Family and friends may pay their respects on Monday from 3pm till the time of service at 6pm.
