Robert "Gene" Long

Robert (Gene) Long, age 79, of Louisville, Kentucky passed away on Saturday, April 10, 2021.  Robert was born in Louisville, Kentucky on November 14, 1941 and raised three children in his hometown with his wife, Sheila. He worked for National Linen Service and Cintas as a route delivery man. He found great joy in coaching baseball and basketball for the Blue Lick and Okolona Little Leagues for over 14 years. He loved spending time with his life-long friends and proudly organized their annual reunions at Mike Linning’s. He is preceded in death by his wife, Sheila Long, and his parents. He leaves to cherish his memory his children, Kim Nall (Keith), Brenda Winstead (Denny) and David Long (Cindy). He will be lovingly remembered as “Pappy” by his grandchildren, Lindsay (Tyler), Kayla, Brandon, Kelci, Bryce and Allison (Alex) and his great grandchildren, Peyton and Barrett. Gene will be honored in a celebration of life service that will be held at 6pm on Thursday, April 15, 2021 in the chapel of Schoppenhorst, Underwood and Brooks Funeral Home (Preston Hwy. at Brooks Rd.) with cremation to follow. Friends and Family may pay their respects on Thursday from 2pm until time of service at the funeral home.
