Roy’s family and friends will fondly remember him for his heart: his love for others, the best bear hugs, his unconditional forgiveness, his laughter, and his unwavering faith in God.
Roy was born on October 5, 1956, to James and Edith Chapman. He was a proud member of the Durrett High School class of 1974. After graduating from high school, Roy began his career as a professional drywall finisher at Star Drywall of Louisville, eventually partnering with colleagues to form Alliance Drywall. He dedicated the majority of his working years to his craft, ensuring that every ceiling and corner was perfect, and every seam invisible.
Roy was also known for his athletic talents, particularly as a power hitter on the softball field—a close second to his expertise in drywall. His passion for the sport extended beyond his own involvement, as he enthusiastically coached his sons’ baseball teams through their little league years. For the past 30 years, his athletic abilities played out on a different field as he mastered the sport of golf.
A faithful member of Dixie Valley Church of God, Roy was always ready to serve. He contributed his time and energy by teaching, serving in the Kitchen Ministry, and sitting on the Church & Pastor’s Council. He was recognized for his deep faith, craftsmanship, and his kind and approachable nature.
Roy was preceded in death by his parents, James Francis Chapman and Edith R. Chapman; brother, Clarence Harrison Chapman; sister, JoAnn Chapman. After his mother Edith took her heavenly flight, Pat Phillips took on that role for Roy, and he gained a new family. He is survived by his loving wife, Barbara Phillips Chapman; his brothers, James Chapman (Cheryl) and Bobby Chapman (Lou); his sons, Bryan Chapman (Jaime), Shaun Chapman (Christy), Aaron Chapman (Laura), and Nathan Chapman (Kayla); and his grandchildren: Lacey, Taitlyn, Gavin, Brayden, Eloise, Leah, and Hayes. He is also survived by his extended family: Ray and Belinda Parrish; Daniel, Alina, and Guytyan Parrish; Tom and Lori Warf; Jeremy, Jill, and Anderson Warf; Drew and Nina Warf. He also leaves behind a host of other friends and family who cherished him, particularly his golfing brothers.
The family thanks Dr. William Haney, Dr. Kenneth Anderson, and the 4Park family at Baptist Health of Louisville for the love and care they provided through medicine.
Funeral service will be held at 3:00 pm on Saturday, November 29, in the chapel of Schoppenhorst Underwood and Brooks (4895 N. Preston Hwy, Shepherdsville, KY 40165). Friends and family may pay their respects on Friday, November 28, from 2 pm until 8 pm, and Saturday, November 29, from noon until 3:00 pm.
