Sandra Lee Rose Wininger, 79, returned to her Heavenly Father on Thursday, August 6, 2026, with her loving family by her side. She was born in Louisville, Kentucky on Saturday, April 5, 1947, to the late Robert and Elizabeth Rose.
Sandy took great joy in working in her flower gardens and yard, creating a tranquil space that reflected her thoughtful spirit, beautiful, welcoming, and quietly restorative. She found genuine contentment in simple solitude, often sitting on her deck and taking in the calm of her beautiful garden.
She loved her family immensely, always making calls to check on them and finding time to make all their special gatherings and celebrations. When her boys were growing up, she had the “Kool-aid House” where all their friends gathered and were warmly welcomed.
Sandy’s love for her family was constant and unmistakable, expressed not only in devotion but in the way she drew people close. She had a beautiful gift for welcoming others who were just friends and making them feel like family. Sandy offered warmth, belonging, and love that will be deeply missed.
She is survived by her husband, Randy Lee Wininger, her children, Mark Fleig (Lana), Todd Fleig (Stacy), Jason Wininger, Melissa Hedge (Brian), and Leann Miles (Jesse); her grandchildren, Corey Fleig (Kylee), Lizzie Billhartz (Jacob), Heather McKellar, Sloane Fleig, Bailey Sanchez (Daniel), Connor Wininger (Hannah), Mia Moore, Gayle Hedge, Scarlett Hedge, Violet Hedge, Brody Miles, John Carter, Lucas Carter and Samantha Davis; her great-grandchildren Calum, Bonnie Kate and Silas, Amelia, Goldie, Rosie, Edward, August, Riley and Brantlee; her sister, Sharon Bryant, along with numerous nieces, nephews and dear friends.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her sister Sue Whaley, brother-in-law, Jerry Whaley and son Chris Wininger.
A Celebration of Life for Sandy will be at 6 pm on Friday, August 14, 2026, in the chapel of Schoppenhorst, Underwood and Brooks Funeral Home (4895 N. Preston Hwy. Shepherdsville). Family and friends may pay their respects on Friday, August 14, 2026, 3 pm till time of service at 6 pm.
