Walter Maggard

Walter Maggard age 88, of Mt. Washington, Kentucky passed away on Sunday, June 14, 2026. Walter was born in Cutshin, Kentucky on Monday, January 24, 1938.

Walter was a member of Mt. Zion Full Gospel Church. He was a man of strong faith and loved being involved in his church. Some of his favorite activities were taking long “Sunday drives” every evening with his beloved wife, and making people laugh. He also liked to fish, hunt and mowing his grass on his John Deere. He took pride in his family and enjoyed making memories with them. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 63 years, Winona “Sumner” Maggard, his parents Fred and Ozie “Coots” Maggard.

He is survived by his children Vanessa Boggs (Shawn) and Bruce Maggard (Kimberly); granddaughter, Shelby Maggard (Nick); great grandson, Sawyer Mathes; siblings, Jody Couch and Aleen Long (Claudie), numerous nieces, nephews and a host of other family and friends.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 pm on Saturday, June 20, 2026, in the chapel of Schoppenhorst, Underwood and Brooks Funeral Home (4895 N. Preston Hwy) with burial to follow at Brookland Cemetery. Family and friends may pay their respects on Friday, from 1pm till 8 pm and again on Saturday from 10 am till the time of service at 1:30 pm.
