William “Bill” Glenn Dawson, 77, passed away on Wednesday, June 8, 2022 following a brief hospitalization. Born in Shepherdsville, KY, Bill’s life changed when he met his future wife, Brenda, at the farmer’s market when he was just five years old. For over a half of a century, he would henceforth be acknowledged as part of a packaged pair - “Brenda and Bill,” “Mom and Dad,” and later “Grammy and Paw.” His passing comes just two months after he said goodbye to Brenda; perhaps he was no longer able to be only half of the pair.
While he wasn’t known to be especially fond of or adept at household chores (he on occasion would buy new socks and underwear instead of doing laundry), he certainly knew his way around a kitchen. His love language was food. He nurtured many hungry souls with his famous fried fish, all-holiday stuffing, and apple and chocolate pies. He generously and calmly walked many of his gastronomical trainees through cooking steps when the holiday meal was just hours away. Nor was there ever a time when he turned down a request for a home cooked meal or dessert when one of his grandchildren was passing through town.
He lived a full and energetic life and will be remembered fondly by those he left behind - as a father and grandfather, as a builder traveling around the country building restaurants with the construction crews, as an avid golfer and prankster on one of his many golf trips with his friends, as a fisher and gardener sharing his bounty to those always delighted to receive, or as the Louisville area’s best kazoo-playing grandfather performing at a wedding near you.
Bill was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Brenda; his parents, Charles and Glennie Dawson; his daughter, Deanna Salazar; and grandchildren, Hannah and Taran.
Bill is survived by his children, Glen Dawson (Kristin), Jennifer Hoehler (Erich), Brent Dawson, and Chad (Janie) Dawson; son-in-law John (Colleen) Salazar; siblings - sisters Anna F Crockett and Mary B Rising (Bill) and brother Charles E Dawson (Peggy); 14 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild; as well as a host of other family and friends.
Funeral service will be at 10am Monday, June 13, 2022 in the chapel of Schoppenhorst Underwood & Brooks Funeral Home 4895 N. Preston Highway Shepherdsville, with burial to follow at Hebron Cemetery. Visitations will be on Sunday 2pm until 8pm and on Monday 9am until the time of service at 10am.
