

Mr. William E. Mattingly, Jr., age 88, of Louisville, Kentucky, returned to his Heavenly Father Monday, August 21, 2023. He was born on April 18, 1935 in Manton, Kentucky to the late William E. Mattingly Sr. and Mary I. (Miles) Mattingly. Mr. Mattingly, Jr. worked as a Road Tester at Ford Motor Company until he retired in 1987 after 32 years of service. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Carolyn E. Mattingly; sons, William E. Mattingly III, Kenneth Ray Mattingly; daughter, Carolyn Dunning; step son; Jerry Alvey; stepdaughter, Carolyn J. Alvey; grandchildren, William, Brian, Bradley; brothers, Frankie, Albertus, Edgar, Herman, David; sisters, Ann, Hazel, Mary, and Ursela.
He was a very hard worker who loved his family along with family traditions. His hobbies included golfing and bowling. Mr. Mattingly, Jr. loved horses and to tell stories. He was the kind of man who would never meet a stranger, no matter where he went. Mr. Mattingly attend 59 Kentucky Derby races straight ending in 2014.
Mr. Mattingly, Jr. leaves to cherish his memory his son, Tim Mattingly (Kim); daughter, Catherine Wiberg; stepson, Billy Phelps (Beth); grandchildren, Nicholas R. Mattingly, Jeremy D. Horton, Cassie L. Mattingly, Cheyenne L. Mattingly; 7 great grandchildren; sisters, Mae Wise, Margaret Kemp; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Funeral service will be held at 12:00 pm Noon on Saturday, August 26, 2023 in the chapel of Schoppenhorst, Underwood and Brooks Funeral Home (Preston Hwy at Brooks Rd) with burial at Holy Rosary Cemetery. Family and friends can pay their respects on Friday, August 25, 2023 from 2:00 pm until 8:00 pm and again on Saturday from 10:00 am until the time of service at 12:00 pm Noon.
