William "Pank" Mattingly

March 20, 1943- June 26, 2021.

William, known to everyone as Pank, went to his forever home to be with Jesus on Saturday, June 26, 2021.

He leaves behind his wife of 33 years, Karen Hoffman Mattingly; children, Shannon Marie Booth, Quin Diane Callahan and Jennifer Nicole Knox (Grant); his stepsons, Derek Bradley Bing (Rebekah) and Ethan Barclay Bing (Elizabeth); 10 grandchildren; 2 great- grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews; a brother-in- law and sister-in-law and a host of other dear family and friends.

He is preceded in death by, his parents, Alton and Agnes (Mattingly) Mattingly; siblings, Geneal Whitlock, Valeria Stephens, Louis Mattingly, Malcom Mattingly, Jack Mattingly, Doris Kawa and Michael Mattingly.

Pank graduated from Trinity High School in 1961 and immediately enlisted in the Marine Corps where he proudly served from 1961-1965. He worked in maintenance at General Electric from 1965- 1997 when he retired. In 1989 he bought a beehive and thus began his love for beekeeping. He eventually had 75 hives and started a little business called Fern Creek Honey. He was very meticulous about the quality of his honey and many people said it was the best honey they’d ever tasted. He was greatly loved as the bee/ honey man. He was a member of the Kentucky Beekeeper’s Association and a member of the Marine Corps League. He was also a faithful member of Little Flock Baptist Church for 25 years.

Pank could fix just about anything and if he couldn’t, he’d study the situation until he could. A wealth of knowledge and skill is lost with his passing.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Wednesday, June 30, 2021 at Schoppenhorst, Underwood and Brooks Funeral Home (Preston Hwy. at Brooks Rd.) and at Little Flock Baptist Church (5510 N. Preston Hwy., Shepherdsville) on Thursday, July 1, 2021 from 10:00 am until the funeral service begins at 11:00 am with burial to follow at Brookland Cemetery.
