Elder Alfred H. Lewis
July 3, 1942 – April 4, 2018
Alfred Hamilton Lewis was born on July 3, 1942 to Kenneth and Daisy Thomas (both deceased) in La República de Panamá. The first of five sons, Alfred spent his early years in Panama City. On January 28, 1967 he married the love of his life, Marcela E. Castillo. They went on to have four beautiful daughters: Lorna Michelle, Ghizsel Magalis, Jennifer Melisha and Jenniece Melisha. The family spent many years in New York where Alfred made a career at Con Edison. Over time, Alfred became the proud grandfather to seven children: ZaMar, Rashaad and Jonté (to whom he also became a father); Spencer Khaleem, Jonathan, Treasure, Gianni and Milahn. He also claimed Shekinah, Zoe and Melody Phillips as Grands-in-Love. In addition to being a devoted husband and father, Alfred was also a devoted Man of God and lover of Christ. He was well known for his faithfulness to the body of Christ, serving in whatever capacity he was needed. He was eventually elevated to the position of Elder at Triumphant Full Gospel Assembly under the late Bishop Harold Joseph. He also holds the distinction of being the first ever elder of Christ United Church International in Loganville, Georgia under his beloved Apostles Daren and Valerie Phillips. Affectionately known as “Elder Lew,” he was responsible for administering the baptism of many souls and the dedication of a multitude of babies to the Lord. Loved by many, Alfred was always the life of the party. He was a lover of boxing and even boxed as a hobby. He went to school for upholstery and became a master upholsterer. A nurturing spirit, he was a mentor of men, a hero to many and someone who never met a stranger. A jack of all trades, larger than life and “different,” something he never let us forget – much like his famous whistle which commanded his family’s attention wherever they were at all times. If you’ve ever had an encounter with him, you knew he was one of a kind. He will be missed. Alfred is survived by his wife, Marcela; daughters Lorna (Ronald Hunt), Ghizsel (Greg McCray), Jennifer (Spencer Maxwell) and Jenniece (Nick Alcine); grandchildren Zamar F. Lewis, Rashaad E. Lewis, Jonté W. Lewis, Spencer Khaleem Maxwell, Jonathan E. Hunt, Treasure J. Hunt, Gianni N. Alcine and Milahn T. Alcine; brothers Calvin E. Lewis-Thomas (Julia), Carlos (Rique) E. Lewis-Thomas (Diana), Antonio (Tony) V. Lewis-Thomas (Annette), and Jaime R. Lewis-Thomas; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
