

Arthur Edmund Boehm, 92, died Tuesday, December 27, 2011 in Lawrenceville, GA. He was born in Forest Park, IL on April 22, 1919 to Theresia Zapfel Boehm and John Boehm. He was preceded in death by his brother, John, and his sisters, Theresia Fahrenberg and Dorothy Gall. Also preceding Arthur in death were his first wife, Gertrude Peters Boehm, his second wife, Gloria Hartle (Beck) Boehm, and her son, Timothy Beck. Arthur and Gloria were long-time residents of Bermuda Run, NC and maintained a second home in Boone, NC.
Arthur graduated from Proviso High School in Maywood, IL and attended Valparaiso University in Valparaiso, IN. After entering the Armed Forces in April of 1943, he attended Officer Candidate School at Washington Lee University. He served as a Captain in the Army Air Corp in WWII and participated in campaigns in the Western Pacific, Luzon, and the Southern Philippines Liberation. His decorations and citations include the American Theater Ribbon, Victory Medal, AFT Ribbon with 3 Bronze Battle Stars and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one Bronze Battle Star. He received his Honorable Discharge from the Air Force Reserve on May 6, 1955.
He worked for Martindale Hubbell, publishers of an international legal directory, for 36 years, retiring as Senior Vice President in 1984. During those years he lived in Dallas, TX, Hollywood, IL, and Summit, NJ with his first wife, “Pete”, and their children, Suzanne and Daniel. Arthur co-founded Boehm Travel Companies with his son, Daniel, in 1983 and was majority owner and Chairman of the Board until shortly before his death. Arthur and his wife, Gloria, were members of Home Moravian Church in Winston-Salem, NC.
Arthur is survived by his daughter Suzanne Dotten of Reno, NV and her children Terri Rowe, Karen Mantooth, and Guy Haselmann. Also surviving are Arthur’s son, Daniel Boehm of Snellville, GA, and Daniel’s son, Kenneth Boehm. Twelve great-grandchildren survive, as well as a stepdaugher, Kathryn Doyle, her daughter, Britanny Doyle, and a stepdaughter-in law, Kimberly Beck, with her two daughters, Laura Bunker and Amanda Beck.
Arthur is remembered with love and gratitude for the gift of himself to all of his family members, friends, and acquaintances. His kindness, generosity, good humor, enjoyment of life, and tendency to burst into song will stay with us forever. We thank him, too, for his consistent optimism and assistance in helping us deal with our life challenges. We love you, Arthur Boehm.
A Memorial Service was held at the Eternal Hills Funeral home in Snellville, GA on January 2, 2012. A second service was held at the Home Moravian Church, 529 S. Church St., Winston-Salem, NC on January 22, 2012 .
