Born in Atlanta, GA on April 24, 1932, she was the youngest of five children born to Alva Seal Burnette and Mattie Rebie Allen Burnette. She grew up in Midtown, Atlanta and graduated from Murphy High School in 1951. As a teenager, she attended Whiteford Avenue Baptist Church, where she met her husband Clyde H. Massey. The couple went together for five years, and married on April 25, 1953. They raised their family of 3 sons in Belvedere Park and Decatur, GA. Mrs. Massey retired from Southern Bell in 1994 after working 25 years in the accounting department. In 1994, the couple built a getaway home in Helen, GA, where they enjoyed spending time and building memories with family and friends. Mrs. Massey and Clyde were happily married for over 46 years.
Mrs. Massey was an avid follower of Christ and was a member of Chestnut Grove Baptist Church. She will be remembered as a loving and faithful wife, mother, and grandmother. She served as the foundation of her family and always regarded them as her greatest legacy.
Mrs. Massey was best known by her family as "Mamaw". When she was not playing games, watching her favorite shows, reading the bible, or talking on the phone, you could find her spending time with family and friends.
She is survived by her three sons, David Massey (Faye) of Flowery Branch, Ronnie Massey (Debra) of Covington, and Bruce Massey (Allyson) of Covington; nine grandchildren, Brandi, Michelle, Kimberly, Candice, Melinda, Colby, Jacob, Dylan, and Marilee; and thirteen great-grandchildren.
A visitation for Barbara will be held Friday, February 16, 2024 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Eternal Hills Funeral Home, 3594 Stone Mountain Highway, Snellville, GA 30039.
The family also welcomes visitors Saturday, February 17th from 12:00-2:00 pm at Chestnut Grove Baptist Church in Grayson, GA.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, February 17, 2024 at 2:00 pm in the Chestnut Grove Baptist Church Chapel, 2299 Rosebud Rd SW, Grayson, GA 30017.
A graveside service will immediately follow at Eternal Hills Memory Gardens, 3700 Stone Mountain Hwy, Snellville, GA 30039.
