Betty Jean DeFoor Reed, age 90, was the daughter of the late William Clifford DeFoor and Maggie Noreen DeFoor. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Oscar Otto Reed, sisters Lora D. Kazemir, Julia D. Slaughter (Robert) and Mary D. Flournoy (Jerry), and one nephew Stephen D. Slaughter.
She is survived by one daughter Robin R. McLemore (Mike) and one son Randall L. Reed, three grandsons - Michael (Shea) and Justin (Audrey) McLemore, Tyler Reed, and one granddaughter – Jennifer M. Dunford (Brandon), 7 great-granddaughters and 3 great-grandsons. She is also survived by a whole host of nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews and their children who adore her.
Mrs. Reed was born in Atlanta, but the family relocated to Birmingham, Alabama when she was young. She attended Robinson Elementary and Woodlawn High schools. She married the love of her life in 1958, and they moved back to the Atlanta, Georgia area where he lived. She worked at Mack Truck until her retirement and was a church secretary at Loganville United Methodist Church for many years. She was a long-time member of Snellville United Methodist Church. Betty was a life-long Methodist having been brought up at Lake Highland’s Methodist Church in Birmingham where she sang in the church choir before moving to Atlanta and adding her voice to choirs there. She loved the Lord with all her heart and soul and brought her children up to do the same. She hated to miss Sunday morning church services. Even after she was so ill and couldn’t drive, she would find a ride to church. She will be greatly missed by family and friends far and wide. We know she is home with her Lord and her message would be this: “Love the Lord your God with all of your heart with all of your soul and with all of your mind.” Matthew 22:37 Living your life with and for the Lord is the only way to find true peace and the only promise of heaven – an eternity in the presence of the Lord and reunited with family!
