Ray is preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Janette Wagner. He is survived by his son, Marshall Ray Wagner. Ray attended First United Methodist Church of Winder, GA, where he faithfully served until his health no longer made it possible.
Born and raised in Tennessee, Ray graduated from Tennessee Tech University with a bachelor’s degree. He soon followed that with his Master’s degree from Middle Tennessee State University. He also served in the United States Army. Ray spent many years working with the education system and students and retired from the Dekalb County school system as a high school teacher and football coach. After his retirement, he enjoyed traveling with his wife, volunteering in hi community, landscaping and working on tractors. He was an avid Tennessee Volunteers fan and never missed watching or listening to one of their football, basketball, baseball or softball games. Ray was a positive beacon of light every day, always looking for the good in any circumstances. He was an encourager, teacher, provider, friend, husband, and father. Ray was a man who carried many titles and led by example. He lived life in such a way that his absence will be noticed and felt.
A memorial service for Ray will be held Wednesday, February 8, 2023 from 12:00 PM to 12:30 PM at Eternal Hills Funeral Home and Cremation, 3594 Stone Mountain Highway, Snellville, GA 30039, followed by a visitation from 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM.
