Carol Winona Hill Rouse, age 82, passed away peacefully at her home in Grayson, GA. on Wednesday, November 11, 2020. She had been experiencing the ravages of years of dementia. Carol was the first born child of the late William Stanley Hill and Marjorie Cecelia Doyle Hill. Carol was born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada and remained a Canadian citizen throughout her life, while enjoying permanent residency status in the United States since 1978. She displayed much patriotism for her new found home.

Carol experienced success as office manager in several businesses throughout her professional career in both countries of her residence, including Canada’s Grand and Toy and ABC Locksmith Supply Ltd., now ABC Security Access Systems. Carol’s leisure time in those early years was spent swimming, boating, and playing cards with friends and family at her cottage in the True North, Canada.

In the United States Carol quickly earned the position of office manager for Commercial Metals Company, in first the Atlanta and later the Chattanooga location. For a few years Carol co-owned a successful franchise called American Speedy Printing Centers. After the age of retirement, Carol did not rest on her laurels. She became a champion for abused children, working with agencies in whatever capacity she could to improve their plight. Her duties included secretarial, records case management, and project management. She then held the position of office manager for a company called Family Support Services from which she retired when her husband, former Marine Captain Albert Connell Rouse, passed away in 2006. Prior to his passing, Albert and Carol did volunteer work for the St. Vincent de Paul Society, through St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Norcross, where they were active members. Carol, with no expectations of gratitude or notoriety, gave selflessly to many charitable organizations. Her nature was that of generosity. In recent years Carol’s down time was spent sitting on her screened porch watching the creatures that lived in the backyard in the South she had come to call home.

Carol had an easy-going and kind temperament and was almost never seen to lose her temper. She was extremely funny and possessed the ability to deliver one-liners, quips, and punch lines that would knock one’s socks off! Anyone who knew her will find her passing a great loss.

Throughout Carol’s life her greatest enjoyment came from spending time with family and friends to whom she was devoted. Carol is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Catherine Folstrom and Josh Smith, granddaughters, Kia Carolina Folstrom-Smith and Amber Gregory, husband Jeff Gregory, and her great grandchildren, Braydon and Nevaeh Gregory. Other loved ones include life-long best friend and cousin, Judy Doyle Hynes, her cousin and godson, Gary Doyle, her cousin and goddaughter, Tania Hynes-Manone, as well as many other family members, all from the Toronto and outlying Ontario areas. Carol is also survived by her devoted sister and brother-in-law, Melody Marie Hill Scoggins and Alton Scoggins, her nieces, Noelle Smith and Delani Scoggins-Wilson, their spouses and children, all of whom reside in towns surrounding Atlanta, Georgia. Also included in her family circle were her beloved step-family, including Connell Rouse, his wife, Shannon, and their children, Tanner and Lily, all of Greensborough, NC.
