Christopher Sylvester Curry (Chris) was born August 10, 1938 to the late Henry and Eula Curry. He was the youngest of two children born to this union. His place of birth was Apalachicola, FL but he was mostly raised in Tallahassee, FL, where he and his sister, Gerald Baker, lived with their grandmother, Marie Johnson. He spent his summers in the Bronx, NY with his mother, Eula Curry.
Chris attended school in Tallahassee as well as New York. He graduated from Florida A & M University High School and furthered his education at State University of New York at Farmingdale.
He joined the U.S. Air Force after graduating and was a member of the Air Force Football Team until obtaining an honorable discharge.
After his four-year tour of duty, he became employed at Manufacturers Hanover Trust which later became Chase Bank and then J.P. Morgan Chase Bank, and remained there until he retired in September, 26, 2000, as Vice President of the IT Media Specialist Department. He loved his job at what was often referred to as “Manny Hanny”, where he made tons of friends with whom he went on numerous vacations.
He was an avid reader but his love of football outranked any of his other activities. He religiously watched Monday, Friday, and Sunday football.
Over the past few years, his main caregivers were his son, Brian, his sister, Gerald, and his niece, Lynda Abrams, with supplementary care and support from his daughter-in-law, Jil, and additional provisions were made by his daughter, Tina. After a long battle with illness, Chris was called home on Wednesday, March 12, 2025. He leaves to continue the celebration of his life, his wife, Jacquelyn Pelham-Curry, his two children by his first wife (Edna Patricia Ashe), Brian (Jil) Curry and Christina Curry, his step-children, Jai Pelham, Joseph Pelham, and Jeannine Pelham, his sister, Gerald Baker, his grandsons, Trey Graham and Jonathan Powell, his great-grandson Khyrie Graham, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
