The Reverend Colin Arthur Crowfoot passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 22nd at Eastside Medical Center in Snellville, GA at the age of 94. He was surrounded by family, including his wife of 64 years, Carris Crowfoot, and his son, Peter and grandson, Joshua.
Colin was born February 21, 1925 in Darjeeling, India on a tea plantation his father managed, to British-born father Arthur Rustat Crowfoot and his wife, Mylee. Colin and his two brother and sisters attended Dr. Graham’s boarding school in Kalimpong, N. India. After his schooling, Colin moved to Calcutta, working in a bakery. While living in Calcutta he studied violin under the great violinist, Stanley Ghomes and became a well-known violinist.
When Colin and Carris met, he was working for an office equipment firm, Kilburn’s in Calcutta. She was in India as a missionary, having been loaned from the Evangelical Alliance Mission to the Children’s Special Service Mission which ministered in schools all over India. Colin had invited her to speak to his youth group at the Old Mission Church. They became friends, keeping up correspondence as Carris’ travels led her to various cities in India.
Eventually, correspondence led to romance. They were married on Christmas Eve in 1954 in Calcutta’s newly renovated Old Mission Church. They welcomed their first child, David, a year later
Colin left his position at Kilburn’s at Carris’ regular furlough time, returning with her to her home state of West Virginia. While there he took training at Appalachia Bible College to become an ordained minister. They then returned to India spending their lives serving in school missions. After a long career they found it necessary to return to West Virginia because of Carris’ health. They then accepted an offer of a posting in Georgia where they finally retired.
Colin is survived by his wife of 64 years (Lillian) Carris Crowfoot, sons Peter and David, grandsons Joshua, Byron, Daniel, Jonathan JR and Michael and Eric, granddaughters, Lauren and Meghan and a host of nieces, nephews, uncles and cousins.
