I just learned that Dave passed away, announced at our annual UMDF Banquet this weekend. Dave’s career was devoted to rare disease and making sure that patients and families had affordable and solid scientific options for genetic testing. His unwavering dedication to mitochondrial disease led to receiving a leadership award last year at the banquet. I knew Dave for over 20 years and he was always so happy to see me at meetings. He would show his care for others openly, whether he was putting aside a little GeneDx zebra for me, or bringing a tray of cookies to a family support group meeting, always considerate and compassionate, with his giant smile and warm hugs. Dave’s personality came through when talking about his work with all of the charisma of the world’s best salesman combined with his vast scientific knowledge. Dave will be deeply missed by those of us in the mitochondrial disease community who he served with such dedication. May his memory be a blessing.
