Delores Christie, affectionately known as Cherry and/or Christie, was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She was born in Kingston, Jamaica, on September 18, 1942, and passed away on May 27, 2025.
Christie migrated to the United States in 1975 in pursuit of a better life for her children. She began her career as a domestic helper while studying to become a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). Over the next 30+ years, she dedicated herself to the healthcare field, eventually rising to the position of Office Manager until her retirement at age 62. Throughout her career, she received countless recognitions for her outstanding work.
As one of the first siblings to migrate to the U.S., Cherry welcomed her family with open arms, ensuring they felt welcome and comfortable in her home. She generously provided financial support to help many achieve the American dream of home ownership. Always willing to help, she lived by the motto that she was “little but she tallawah,” a testament to her immense spirit and determination. Christie lived in Brooklyn, NY for over 40 years dedicating her life to helping others. A devout Christian, she worshipped at Bethel Gospel Tabernacle located at 11025 Guy R Brewer Blvd, Queens, NY. She provided bible studies and was always eager to share the scriptures with families and friends, often mailing messages of encouragement and exhortation to her loved ones. Christie is lovingly remembered by her children: Althea, Delroy, Winston, Patrick, Everton, and Paula. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren - Matthew, Stephanie, Patrice, Alexis, McKenzie, Mark, Tyler, and Tajay – and great-grandchildren: Matthew Jr., Christian, Anina, KaeC’on, Kashton. She is also cherished by her son-in-law Eugene, and daughter-in law Dian.
Christie's surviving siblings include Bertie, Albert, Yvonne, Pauline, and Donovan as well as sisters-in-law Millicent, Rose and Joan, brother-in-law, Howard, and numerous nieces and nephews: Patricia, Tanesha, Sapphire, Shannon, Tashira; Troy, Patrick, Devon, Orville, Donovan, Marcus, Jordan, and many great-nieces and nephews.
Her compassionate spirit extended beyond her immediate family, as she traveled across the country to offer support and ministry to inmates in various prisons. A true humanitarian, Delores Christie sent barrels filled with supplies, clothes, and food to various charities in Jamaica, her beloved homeland, which she visited frequently. She volunteered with the Salvation Army, where she recognized for her exceptional service in preparing and serving hot meals and bagging groceries for those in need. In addition to her humanitarian efforts, Delores had a passion for travel, exploring destinations such as Alaska, various Caribbean islands, Canada, and London, England.
Christie was preceded in death by her mother, Margaret Phillips, her brother, Bobby, and her cherished children, Audrey and Marlon.
