

Dorothy Helen Gibbs, age 91 of Jefferson, Georgia, was received into the loving arms of her lord and savior, Jesus Christ, on Wednesday November 27, 2020. She was preceded in death by her parents, Boseman Hyatt Thorne and Belle Shirley Thorne, her late husband of 63 years, Homer Coleman Gibbs Jr. and her late son, David Alan Gibbs.
Dorothy was of the Christian faith and truly loved the Lord. She enjoyed starting off every Sunday watching her favorite preachers, David Jeremiah and Jentezin Franklin and received so much comfort and hope from their messages. She is survived by her daughter, Becky Carron of Jefferson, grandchildren Brooke Povlsen of Gainesville, Georgia, Alan Watkins of Snellville, Georgia, Savannah Stancil of Canon, Georgia, Cole Stancil of Jefferson, Georgia, Afton Baker of Acworth, Georgia, Chad Gibbs of Bethlehem, Georgia and Nick Gibbs, of Social Circle, Georgia. She also had 9 great grandchildren.
Dorothy was also known as Mee Maw by everyone. She was also called the Walkin’ Boss by those close to her as she was not shy about telling people how to do things. She grew up in Titusville, Florida before moving to Atlanta, Georgia, where she worked as a nurse for many years. She loved working in her yard, tending to her many flowers and plants and she was an avid sports fan. She loved watching the Golf and Tennis channels every day. She will be dearly missed by so many family members, close friends, neighbors and many acquaintances. Everyone in her neighborhood loved Mee Maw, especially the children.
Visitation will be at Eternal Hills, Snellville, Georgia on Monday, November 30 from 1-3 P.M with a brief graveside service. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting a donation to the St. Mary’s Hospice house in Athens, Georgia.
