Ella Ruth Honea

Ella Ruth Honea, age 91 of Stone Mountain, GA, went to her heavenly home on Tuesday the 14th of march 2023. She was surrounded by family and lifelong friend Emma Miller. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Fred Harold Honea Jr. and her parents Paul M. Tatum and Era Lena Tatum. Ruth was a Christian and loved the lord. She attended Mt. Park Baptist Church for many years until her health declined. At that point, she would watch Charles Stanley and David Jerimiah on Sunday mornings, and enjoyed devotionals read to her by her daughter Linda. Ruth wore many hats. She was a mother, a grandmother and great grandmother, a sister, an aunt and a friend. The thing she most loved, besides family, was being outside. She loved working in the yard which included for many years, riding her snapper lawn mower. She loved nurturing her plants and flowers and anyone who knew her, knew she had a green thumb. Ruth was affectionately known as Grandma, Grandma Ruth and Mama Ruth. She grew up in Chamblee Georgia and attended Chamblee High School. She worked for over 30 years in the school cafeteria at Hooper Alexander Elementary for over 30 years. All the children and teachers loved Ms. Honea and she loved them. She never met a stranger and will be dearly missed by so many family members, friends and neighbors. She is survived by daughter’s Patricia Gibbs of Grayson, GA, Linda Lagano of Stone Mountain, GA, son Michael Honea (Debbie) of Huntsville, TN, brother Calvin P. Tatum of Scottsdale AZ, grandchildren Chad Gibbs (Gina) of Winder, Georgia, Nick Gibbs of Social Circle, GA, Michael Honea Jr. of Huntsville TN, Stacey Shirey (john) of Piney Flats TN, great grandchildren Chloe and Kristen Peaco, Michaela and Jacob Shirey, Caleb Gibbs and Gracyn Gibbs, nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at a future date which has not been set at this time at eternal hills in Snellville, Georgia.
