George Richard Klein passed away unexpectedly on October 10, 2025. Born on May 13, 1944, in Indiana, George proudly served in the U.S. Navy for 20 years before retiring and eventually moving from Ohio to Georgia. Georgia is where he began a new career, working with parents to set up college funds for their kids and, later in life, helping seniors maximize their savings in retirement. Georgia is also where he and his beloved wife, Betty, built a life full of love, laughter, and music. Married for nearly 60 years, George lost Betty in April. If you know the epic George and Betty love story, you’ll find the same peace and comfort we have in knowing they are together again—dancing, smiling, and listening to beautiful music.
Dad’s larger-than-life personality lit up every room. No one ever remained a stranger to him for long; his generous heart, goofy jokes, and never-ending grin made everyone feel welcome and loved. He had a gift for connection, and his joy was contagious.
George was the long-time co-president of the Atlanta Blues Society, and most recently held the title of President Emeritus, a title for which he was very proud. He was not only a guiding force and a dedicated leader who helped shape the success of ABS over many years, but he was also a cherished friend to so many within the organization and the wider Blues community. His passion, vision, and tireless support for the Blues extended far beyond Atlanta—his influence and love for this music reached across the nation. His impact will be felt for generations to come.
George is survived by his daughters Amy (Jeff) and Megan (Jason), his cherished grandson Sam, and his loving sister Karen. He leaves behind a legacy of love, humor, and kindness that will live on in all of us who were lucky enough to know him.
We will miss him deeply—but we take comfort in knowing he is back in Mom’s arms.
The family will schedule a service at a later date.
