George Moss was born on January 6, 1946 to the late Willie and Nevada Moss in Warren County, Georgia as the oldest of six children. Raised by his maternal grandmother, late Maggie Bell Lee, better known as Big Ma; he enjoyed a happy childhood.
At an early age, George's Big Ma instilled in him the importance of education and family values. Like his alma mater, "The Eagle," George attended and flourished at Warrenton Elementary and High School where he graduated in 1963 in pursuit of excellence and more education. George attended Fellowship Baptist Church in Mitchell, Georgia. George attended Fort Valley University. While attending Fort Valley, his area of focus was Education. While at Fort Valley, George crossed the burning sands and became an active member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. He was a Life Member and attended all Nu Mu Lambda meetings. As an Alpha, he received many awards and recognition like the Alpha Spirit Award, Charles W Green and Past President Awards. By his Chapter, he was often referred to as the "Gentle Giant," "Great Servant and Brother" and "Man of Purpose and Distinction.”
During his tenure at Fort Valley State, George also met the love of his life, Carolyn Binion, to whom he was introduced to by his sister, Margaret Moss. George and Carolyn began their lifelong walk together and were later married in 1972 on her maternal grandmother, late Nancy Binion's porch.
George decided to put his education on hold to join the United States Army where he received a Medal of National Defense after two years of service. After some years in the classroom, George was later promoted to an Assistant Principal position at Cedar Grove Elementary. Still following his passion and pursuit of excellence, George would later serve as Principal at Towers High School, Redan Elementary, Peachtree Junior High School and other schools during his educational career. Enforcing his commitment to excellence, George was well known for taking students with academic success to dinner during his tenure at Peachtree Junior High School. In 2000, he retired from the DeKalb County School System and transitioned into a new position as the Director/Principal of Wesley Chapel UMC Academy for one year. His passion for education did not stop and his love for his children continued as he volunteered at Redan Elementary until he could no more, due to health difficulties.
Outside of education, George was a very devoted and doting father to his children: Raymond, Kim and George.
