Godfrey Percival Barker (June 6, 1948 – June 24, 2026), Birth Place: Guyana
Godfrey Percival Barker was born on June 6, 1948, in Rose Hall Town, Berbice, Guyana, to Barrington Barker, a dedicated police officer, and Emily Eugene Barker (Gene-gene). He was raised across the rich landscapes of Rose Hall Town, New Amsterdam, and Georgetown, where he received his education at Berbice High School, Tutorial High School, and the New Amsterdam School of Nursing.
He began his nursing career at New Amsterdam Hospital, where his gift for caring for others found its true calling. In March 1995, Godfrey moved with his family to Atlanta, Georgia, planting new roots in American soil. In 1998, he joined Atlanta Medical Center, where he served faithfully on the Med-Surg floor until 2015, touching the lives of countless patients with his compassion and dedication.
But Godfrey was far more than his profession. He was a musician at heart, a man who could move a room with a guitar, a steel pan, or a keyboard. He was a builder with his hands, a master in the kitchen, and a devoted fan of cricket and soccer. He was a friendly, loving, kind, caring, compassionate, hard-working, and brilliant man, truly loved by many.
Godfrey leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife of 46 years, Joclyn R. Barker. Together, they raised four children: Corwin Barker, Anansa Barker, Alana Barker, and Jason Barker. He’s also survived by his daughter, Yonnette Glasgow, and son, Mark Barker. He loved them dearly, as well as his son Douglas Barker, whom he proudly adopted as his own, a testament to the size of his heart. He is also survived by fifteen grandchildren who brought him great joy: Amelia Glasgow, Kadeem Glasgow, Teshia Glasgow, Nadia Barker, Uluani Barker, Allissa Barker, Aaliyah Shedd, Davon Barker, Isaiah Shedd, Darren Barker, Devin Barker, Chloe Barker, Olivia Barker, Noah Barker, and Eli Shedd. His legacy continues through three great-grandchildren: Avery Glasgow, Kori Glasgow, and Luca Braddy.
He is further survived by his beloved siblings: Norma Spencer, Pam Barker, Collin Barker, Theresa Evans, Faye Hamilton, Cherryl Stephens-Barker, and Osworth Abdullah, who shared a lifetime of memories with him across two continents. He was preceded in death by his father, Barrington Barker, and his mother, Emily Eugene Barker.
He is also survived by his uncle, Dr. Brentnold Batson, a host of nephews, nieces, and numerous relatives, and lifelong friends, including Braff, Trevor, Harry, Frankie, and Leson, who loved him dearly. Godfrey Percival Barker lived with purpose, loved without reservation, and left this world richer for having been in it. He will be deeply and forever missed.
