Gwen Daley was born to Jesse Hugh Higginbotham and Myrtle Williams Higginbotham in Decatur, GA on June 6, 1929. She graduated from Girls High in Atlanta and later married Walter Randolph (Randy) Daley of Atlanta, a veteran of the Second World War. Although Gwen spent most of her life in the Atlanta, GA area she had the opportunity to live in many different places. These included New Orleans, LA, Dalton, GA, and Tehran, Iran.
In addition to caring for her family, Gwen had a varied career. Early in life she worked many places, including for the Georgia state government, Hatfield hardware store, and several Atlanta universities. She also volunteered with the Big Sisters Program of Atlanta where she mentored younger women who needed a role model. While living in Iran, she worked for Bell Helicopter. And on her return to Atlanta, she began a 20-year position with Wesley Woods Senior Living Center.
Gwen had many close friends, but the greatest was her twin sister, Jackie. Growing up she always watched over Jackie, and they remained close their entire lives. Gwen was also a devoted wife and protective mother to her three children. Even in her last months of life, she was ready to support them, if needed.
Gwen was preceded in death by her husband, Randy, and sister Jackie Harden. She is survived by her three children: Walter Randolph (Carolyn) Daley, Jr., Daniel Hugh (Deb) Daley, and Diane Lenora Daley; her four grandchildren: Daniel Seth Daley, Alexander Randolph (Emily) Daley, Dylan Hugh (Stephanie) Daley, and Trevor Reed (Haizhu) Daley; and her four great-grandchildren: Monroe Gwendolyn Daley, Landon Hugh Daley, Archer Allen Daley, and Emmy Michelle Daley.
Gwen will be laid to rest at Eternal Hills Cemetery in Snellville, GA. Fond memories may be shared at www.eternalhillsfuneralhome.com.
