

Becky was born on December 27, 1940 in Honea Path, South Carolina. She was the first of four children of James “Bud” and Helen Gambrell.
She was preceded in death by her son, Mark Gilmer and brothers Sammy and Ricky Gambrell.
She graduated from Honea Path High School in 1958. Two years later she married her high school sweetheart, James “Jimmy” Gilmer. They lived in Anderson, South Carolina where they had two children, Mark and Wanda. They later moved to Athens, Georgia and then Atlanta. During these years, Becky worked as a head cashier and bookkeeper for Winn Dixie. After moving to Atlanta, she became a longtime member of Evangel Community Church in 1971. Two years later, she had their third child, Joy. Becky continued to volunteer at the church becoming a Sunday school teacher and even leading children’s church with her husband at times. Her church family was a very important part of her life.
Becky retired from Winn Dixie after 30 years. She then worked as a mail carrier with the Post Office for many years. She retired from the Post office in 2006 to care for her son, Mark.
Survivors include her husband of 60 years, James Gilmer; two daughters and their husbands, Wanda & Jim Harris of Loganville, and Joy & Andrew Fike of Tucker; two grandchildren, Megan Harris and William Fike; and one brother, James Gambrell of Honea Path, South Carolina.
Funeral services will be on Thursday July 16 at 3 pm at Evangel Community Church in Snellville.
The family will receive friends at 2 pm on Thursday at Evangel.
