Hiram “Al” Alton Scoggins, age 75, a United States Air Force veteran, died peacefully at home with his wife on June 27, 2022. He is survived by his wife, Melody Scoggins, and his children, Dee Wilson, and Noelle Smith. Also surviving Al are his grandchildren, Georgia Suda, Jessica Wilson, Hannah Smith, Sophia Smith, and Christopher Scoggins-Wilson, as well as his brother, Chester Scoggins. Preceding him in death was his eldest brother, McKee (Mac) Scoggins.
Al was born on July 22nd, 1946 to Daniel Blanford Scoggins and Ola Mae Scoggins in Atlanta, Georgia. He was named by his paternal grandmother, after a biblical figure Hiram (“my brother is exalted”). He spent most of his childhood in Atlanta where he worked in his father’s landscaping business along with his brothers. After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War, spending his tour stateside as a communications expert. Al and Melody married in April of 1983, uniting their children from previous marriages.
Al was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, and his absence will be felt greatly by all who were touched by his selfless love. A visitation and memorial service will be held on Thursday, July 14th beginning at 10:00AM at Eternal Hills Funeral Home, followed by a committal service at 2:30PM at Georgia National Cemetery.
