Howard Junior Stickell

peacefully on June 23, 2017 at New London Health Center, Snellville, GA, under the care of Agape Hospice. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 52 years, Margaret Felton Stickell (1917- 1995). He leaves behind his sons Joe F. Stickell (Nancy), Grayson, GA and Spencer T. Stickell (Lois), Charlotte, NC, grandsons David Stickell (Laura), Snellville, GA, Jonathan Stickell and Christopher Stickell, Charlotte NC, great grandsons Zack Stickell and Grayson Stickell,

Snellville GA. Upon graduation from Greencastle High School, Greencastle, PA in 1940, he went to work for the Frick Company and was transferred to

the Columbia, SC office as a salesman representing the lines of farm, commercial and refrigeration machinery. It was then he met and married Margaret. In 1942, Mr. Stickell enlisted in the US Army to serve in the Battle of the Aleutian Islands during World War II for which he received awards and citations for honorable and meritorious service. After discharge from active duty in 1946, he was assigned to the US Army Reserve unit at Fort Jackson SC where he served under the command of Major General Strom Thurmond, (SC Governor and US Senator). His distinguished service included participation in the United States of America War College, Engineering Management Training Agency, Industrial College of the Armed Forces and the US Army Armor School. In 1946, Mr. Stickell joined The Standard Oil Company, (now Exxon Mobile Corporation) to serve as Regional Purchasing Specialist for the Southeast. He was instrumental in planning numerous facility construction projects, establishing petroleum product delivery systems and service campaigns during his career. In 1974, Mr. Stickell was on the committee to create the Metrolina Area Minority Purchasing Council in Charlotte, NC and served as the President from January 1975 to December 1976. He received an Achievement Award from the council and in January 1976, was invited to the White House by President Gerald Ford in recognition of this accomplishment. He retired from Exxon Mobile in 1983. In 1998, Mr. Stickell married his second wife, Martha Lambert Smith in Memphis, TN. She predeceased him in 2012. During retirement, he pursued many of his hobbies and activities such as world travel, photography, woodworking in his shop and singing with the church choir. He was a member of the Sunrise Baptist Church of Snellville, GA. Funeral Services will be on Tuesday, June 27, 2017, at 3:00pm at Eternal Hills Funeral Home in Snellville, GA.
