OBITUARY
Icilda L. Rose
December 1, 1943 – March 14, 2021
Mrs. Icilda Louise Rose, affectionately known as “Tiny” or “Mother Rose”, was born December 1, 1943 in Trelawny, Jamaica, West Indies to Cecil and Isoline Bernard. She was the second of 15 children. She attended primary school, but due to family obligations she was unable to complete her studies. She wanted to pursue greater opportunities, so she relocated to Kingston. Even though living on her own in Kingston was difficult, she always preserved; sometimes electing to have assistance from family in caring for her children.
In 1982, Icilda married Nathaniel Rose (better known as Uncle Frankie). She migrated to the United States in the early 80’s and later petitioned to have her family join her. She resided in Bronx, New York where she worked as a home health aide for many years, but people often remember her industrious and entrepreneurial drive. Icilda was always intellectually ahead of her time, and a forward thinker. You could often find her fulfilling Avon orders, collecting donations for the church or selling tasty patties after Sunday service. When life gave her lemons, she always made lemonade.
While in New York, Icilda was an active and proud member of Seymour Avenue Church of God. In 2005, she relocated to Lawrenceville, Georgia. There, she was instrumental in her role as a member of Lawrenceville Church of God; now Praise Community Church. She loved her community and church very much. Icilda was a member of the adult and senior choirs, prayer group and women’s ministry. Even in difficult times, she visited and prayed for the sick declaring the wonderful mercies of God. As a devoted follower of Christ, she was always of great support to others and made it her life’s work to lend a helping hand.
Mrs. Rose is survived by her husband, Nathaniel Rose, her 9 children; George (Anthony), Lambert, Winston, Jasmine, Natalie, Michelle, Charmaine, Cheryl and Garfield and her stepdaughter, Patricia. She was blessed with 24 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. She also leaves behind 1 brother, 6 sisters and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Today, we remember Mother Rose for her caring and faithful spirit. She was a warrior and we are thankful for the uplifting wisdom, opportunities, memories and love that she leaves us with. Our Mother Rose will be greatly missed.
