

On August 11, 2024, James Bass, 87 of Villa Rica, GA passed away peacefully. Surviving are his wife, Gail Thornburgh Bass of Villa Rica; daughter, Christina Walker and son-in-law Michael, Villa Rica; son James Bass, Jr. and son-in-law Kenneth Adcox, Alpharetta, GA; and son, Timothy Bass, Jacksonville, FL. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Kathleen Bass, in 2020.
James’ grandchildren are precious to him and are left to mourn. They are Joshua Bass, Alpharetta, GA; Dara and Deja Albright, Atlanta, GA; Aaron Bass, Katie Bass and Will Bass, Alpharetta, GA.
James was born in Shamrock, FL, to the late Jack and Kathleen Bass and was raised in Jacksonville, FL. He graduated from Andrew Jackson High School and received his bachelor’s degree in music at Stetson University, DeLand, FL. After serving time in the Air Force 1960-1965, he launched his career as a church organist and choir director for several churches in Jacksonville, FL. During the 1970’s and 1980’s he worked at the Florida Baptist Bookstore. He and his family relocated to the Atlanta area in 1984 where he continued working as a church organist, most prominently at the Holy Cross Cathedral, Loganville, GA.
While he lived in Stone Mountain, GA, he started a career with the United States Postal Service where he worked until he retired in 2002. The family has been looking forward to celebrating his 50th Wedding Anniversary with wife, Gail, on October 5th of this year. He will be missed by his family and friends.
Funeral handled by Eternal Hills, with Rev. James Cheetham, Trinity Anglican Church, Douglasville, GA, officiating. Interment at Eternal Hills Memory Gardens, Snellville, GA. Visitation will be at noon, Saturday, August 17, 2024, with a service to follow in the funeral home chapel at 1pm. Graveside service at 2pm.
