James Rembert Jones Sr.

James Rembert Jones, affectionately known as "Papa" by his grandchildren, was born on October 26, 1933, in Jasper, Georgia. He passed away peacefully at 10:43 a.m. on September 10, 2026, in Grayson, Georgia. He was 92 years old. Born to the late Lawrence and Lola Jones, James was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers and sisters, Clara, Inez, Tom, and Fain.

On September 14, 1958, James married the love of his life, Alline T. Jones. Together they shared 68 years of marriage, building a life centered on faith, family, and service to others.James proudly served his country in the United States Army from July 23, 1956, until June 28, 1958. He served as a G-4 while stationed in France. Following his military service, he began a career with Life of Georgia Insurance, where he worked in the computer room until his retirement.

Above all else, James was a devoted follower of Christ. He and Alline helped establish the Lawrenceville Church of Christ in Lawrenceville, Georgia, where they faithfully worshiped for more than 60 years. James served the congregation as an elder, shepherding God's people with humility, wisdom, and unwavering faithfulness. Nothing brought him greater joy than gathering with his brothers and sisters in Christ to worship the Lord. Those who knew James will remember him as a quiet, gentleman with a quick wit and wonderfully goofy sense of humor. He rarely sought the spotlight, but every now and then, he would surprise everyone with a quiet, unexpected remark that brought laughter to the room.

James was known for his positive spirit and easygoing nature, carrying a quiet sense of peace wherever he went. Perhaps the most remarkable part of his life, however, was his unwavering faith in God, even in the face of severe physical difficulties. His circumstances never diminished his trust in the Lord or his commitment to live faithfully. Instead, his faith became even more evident in how he worshiped, encouraged others, and trusted God’s promises.

Furthermore, James was a man of prayer, often found sitting quietly in his recliner, softly moving his lips as he prayed while conversation, laughter, and noise carried on around him. Nothing could distract him or stop him from turning his heart toward God. His quiet devotion strengthened the faith of those around him and became a powerful testimony to his family, friends, and brothers and sisters in Christ. Those who witnessed him praying amid the noise will always remember his peaceful, steadfast devotion to God.

James is survived by his beloved wife, Alline T. Jones; his son, James R. Jones Jr., and wife, Stacy Jones; and his daughter, Dana J. Dennis, and husband, Jason Dennis; his cherished grandchildren, James R. Jones III and wife, Macy Jones; Amy Lefort and husband, William Lefort; Peyton Jones; and Eric Dennis; and his beloved great-granddaughter, Eden Lefort. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Barbara Thomason, along with numerous extended family members, dear friends, and brothers and sisters in Christ who will miss him greatly.

The family finds comfort in the hope found in Christ and rejoices in the promise of the resurrection. James' life was marked by quiet faith, steadfast service, and enduring love for God, his family, and His church. His legacy will continue to live on in all who were blessed to know him
