

James Henry Matthews Sr., 85, passed away Monday, June 13, 2016, in Stone Mountain, Georgia. Known to his many friends as "Jim" or "Hoss," he was an outgoing man who "never met a stranger." He was born August 4, 1930, in Perry, Georgia, to parents Henry and Mattie Lee Matthews. He graduated from North Georgia College in 1952, and then went on to serve in the US Army in Korea. He retired as security manager for Rich’s Department Stores in 1994 after almost 30 years.
Jim’s ashes were buried in a private ceremony at the Georgia National Military Cemetery in Canton, Georgia, on June 20, 2016, to rest alongside many of his cherished friends.
A loving husband and father, Jim is survived by his wife, a brother, a sister, 6 sons and 3 grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to a scholarship set up at the University of North Georgia in Jim’s name.
