On October 23, 2019, Joan Dixon Mathis, left her earthly home, to go to her Heavenly home. Joan was born on May 18, 1934 in Atlanta, GA; she was a mother of four children, a wife and worked as a manager at K-Mart department store. Joan had always been an excellent artist and later in life this passion led to her attending an Art School in the mountains of North Carolina. Being an avid reader since early childhood, she became interested in writing her own book, so in 2011, she did just that. The book was titled, Wisdom of the Soul and was published in 2012.
Joan was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Eugene Mathis and an infant grandson, Cory Seagraves. She is survived by one daughter, Leonette Smith Seagraves of Loganville, GA; three sons, Danny (Kathy) Leon Smith of Loganville, GA, Steven (Sue) Keith Smith of Lilburn, GA and Ronald Raymond Smith of Peachtree Corners, GA; one granddaughter, Nicole (Justin) Seagraves Rushin of Augusta, GA; one grandson, Benjamin Collingsworth Smith of Atlanta, GA; one great granddaughter, Kori Marie Rushin of Augusta, GA and one sister-in-law, Jodi Fuller of Haines City, FL.
The family would like to thank our friends at The Retreat at Loganville and Agape Hospice; their care and comfort were greatly appreciated.
A private service will be held, followed by a public reception at Eternal Hills Funeral Home, on Saturday, November 9th from 11 AM to 1 PM.
