Ken was born and raised in Highpoint, North Carolina. He completed his bachelor’s degree at the University of North Carolina in 1969. Thereafter he donned the Tarheel blue with pride. As a veteran insurance salesman, Ken eventually realized his dream of owning his own insurance company: in 2006 The Carter Agency was formed. He was thrilled when his son, Kenny, joined the business in 2013. Ken was a dedicated member of Cornerstone Bible Church in Lilburn, where he enthusiastically sang in the choir, led the usher team, and devoted time to missions outreach. Ken had a heart for people in need. Even after his cancer diagnosis, he purposefully worked to support the Lilburn Co-Op, encouraging, and inspiring his church congregation to donate food and other essentials.
He is best remembered as the man who laughed big and loved more. In his unwavering faith in Christ and devotion to family, Ken loved and served others well. Whether it was laying a sidewalk, putting a new roof on a porch, or supporting a financial need, Ken was there to help. For his children and grandchildren Ken was always present: encouraging, mentoring, and loving them well. He never missed a dance recital, swim meet, baseball game, or family gathering. He will be dearly missed by family and friends.
Ken was predeceased by his parents, Walter Joseph and Opal Mae Carter; his siblings, Ronald Joseph Carter; and Bobby Lee Carter; and his first wife (mother of his children) Sarah Elizabeth Carter.
He is survived by his wife, Rose Carter; his daughter, Shirley Gimbert and her husband Steve; his son, Kenny Carter, and his wife, Dana; his grandchildren, Lauren Swindler (Kyle), Hank Gimbert, Blakeley Carter, Trey Carter; and his children and grandchildren by marriage, Rob and Lisa Ball, and children Sean, Joshua, Westin, Harrison, and Alex; Mary Ellen and Matt Smith and their children, Witt and Ellie.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Cornerstone Bible Church in Lilburn, on November 14th at 2:00 pm.
