Kenneth Allen Nielsen

Kenneth Allen Nielsen was born October 1, 1941 in Warren, Pennsylvania and passed away peacefully at home on July 7, 2025. He was proceeded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Clara Nielsen, and his sisters, Joyce Evan and Karen Swart. He entered the Navy upon high school graduation and served for 20 years in Naval aviation, flying in the P3 Orion subchasers and working in aircraft maintenance. He was stationed in Norfolk, Minneapolis, Mundeleion, Great Lakes, Roda, Spain, and Ann Arbor. The remainder of his work until retirement was also in aviation.

Ken was the most loved husband of Mary Gaarder Nielsen, the beloved father of Tammy (Clyde) Downes and Lori (Al) Nagy and beloved stepfather of Michael (Leslie) and Jon Carlson. He was also the proud grandfather of Zach (Elissa) Downes, Jesse (Shauna) Downes, Evan (Jackie) Nagy, Sara (Bill) Jukes and Quinn and Rowan Carlson. He is also a proud great grandfather to Maddison, Caden and Alexander.

His hobbies were golf, travel at home and abroad, fishing, gardening and serving at church. He was a member of the planning committee, chef of the Men's Breakfast, chef for Shrove Tuesday and Ash Wednesday and maker of communion bread. He also enjoyed working on Round To It projects and painted the red cross in front of the church with the help of scaffolding. Ken always looked for ways to help others whenever he saw a need. It was his absolute mission.

The memorial service will be held at the church on August 23 at 2:00. There will be a reception immediately following the service for family and friends.
