With deep love and tender remembrance, we celebrate the life of Leane Jean-Charles, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend whose warmth and strength touched all who knew her. She is preceded in death by her father and mother (Pastor Joseph Aleker Phanord and Orzelia Jean Baptiste), her brothers (Pastor Jean Luc Phanord and Pastor Samuel Phanord and his late wife), her sister (Agathe Athouris), sisters-in-law (Marie Rose Phanord, Lunise Phanord and Florina Jean-Charles) and brothers-in-law (Pastor Roland Athouris, Joseph Lutès Dorcent, Onondieu Jean-Charles and Gesner Jean-Charles).
Born in Saint Michel, Haiti, Leane was the cherished daughter of Pastor Joseph Aleker Phanord and Orzeilia Jean Baptiste, and the second oldest of 8 children. From an early age, she carried within her a natural sense of responsibility, compassion, quiet leadership and love for God that would define her life.
Leane was a woman of many talents and unwavering dedication. As a teacher, she nurtured young minds with humor, discipline, patience and wisdom. As a gifted seamstress and beautician, her hands created beauty, whether through carefully stitched garments or styles that made others feel confident and seen. And in her kitchen, she expressed love most deliciously.
She was an excellent cook, known for preparing meals that gathered family together and filled her home with comfort, laughter, and the rich flavors of her Haitian heritage. Above all, Leane’s greatest joy was her family. She was the beloved wife of Pastor (and retired teacher) Joseph Jean-Charles, her partner in love and life for 60 years. She was a proud and devoted mother to Mirlene Radcliffe, Oldine Jean-Charles, Jumionne Tiako, and Benjamin Jean-Charles, nurturing each with strength, wisdom, guidance, unconditional love and humor. She warmly welcomed her sons and daughter-in-law as her own and earned their deep respect and affection. She also held a special place in her heart for her many nieces and nephews, who remember her with great fondness.
Her legacy continues through her treasured grandchildren: Dominique Tiako, Caleb Radcliffe, Jasmine Tiako, Brooke Radcliffe, Christopher Radcliffe, Gabriel Jean-Charles, Simone Tiako, and Brianna Jean-Charles, each of whom carries lifelong memories of her love and guidance. In each of them lives a piece of her spirit, resilience, kindness, faith, and deep devotion to family.
Leane was dearly loved and will be profoundly missed by her surviving children, her loving husband, her sisters (Rosemanne Dorcent and Phoebe Phanord), her brothers (Pastor Antoine
Phanord and Pastor Reuben Phanord), her beloved sisters-in-laws (Marie Phanord, Elza Phanord and Ermite Jean-Charles), and her large extended family, including nieces and nephews, numerous cousins on both sides of her family, along with her dear friends. Her life was a testament to an unmistakable love for God, hard work, faith, creativity, wisdom and selfless love.
Though her physical presence is no longer with us, her lessons, her laughter, her recipes, her stories, and her prayers remain woven into the hearts of those she leaves behind. May her memory be a blessing and her legacy live on for generations to come.
