Margaret "Marge" May Vann, age 91 passed away on May 22, 2013 from pancreatic cancer. Born 12/13/1921 in Philadelphia, PA, Margaret was a daughter of the late Samuel John May and the late Margaret Donis May, and the wife of the late Lt. Col. William F. Vann. She is survived by her sons, Michael J. Vann and his wife, RIcki, of Roswell, GA and Joseph W. Vann and his wife, Susan, of Snellville, GA, grandsons, Matthew W. Margaret spent her childhood in Philadelphia and attended college at Abington Memorial Hospital Dixon School of Nursing in Abington, PA where she received her BS degree in Nursing. She enlisted in the Army in March 1944 during WWII, serving as a battlefield triage nurse and achieving the rank of First Lt. While stationed in London she met and wed fellow officer William F. "Fred" Vann to whom she was happily married until his passing in 1991. Although her military career and subsequent life as an army wife had challenges, especially during wartime, she was able to travel and have some wonderful experiences as well. After living in Germany for 3 1/2 years she moved to the U.S. where she lived primarily in Augusta, GA, Philadelphia, Miami, FL and Atlanta.
Margaret, who was always athletic, had a great love of all sports and an incredible knowledge of sports facts and trivia. She a was a big fan of the University of Florida (Gators) and the University of Georgia (Bulldogs), her two sons' alma maters. She was an excellent golfer, winning several local tournaments and achieving two holes-in-one. In addition to sports, Margaret enjoyed politics and current events, cultural activities, her church, St. Thomas More Catholic Church of Decatur where she was a faithful member for many years, and reading. She was an avid reader of all genres, having read most of the Bestseller Lists at any given time. Her biggest passion, however, was her family: her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, all of whom she adored. She will be remembered and greatly missed by her family, friends, and the many privileged to have known her.

I was very sorry to hear of Auntie's passing. Although it has been years since I've seen her, I always liked her notes at Christmas....you are all in our thoughts and prayers. Betsy (Marge's daughter)
