Mary Louise Hurd

She was born Mary Williams and spent most of her childhood in Bronx, NY. After WWII, she married John Richard Hurd of Lynn, MA. For 30 years, they resided in Lynn where they raised 6 children. Believing in giving back, they spent many years coaching and supporting the Lynn Shore Little League and St. Joseph's basketball team. Mary was an active member of St. Stephen's Church before moving to Atlanta in the 1970’s.

There Mary continued her community involvement at St Edwards Church in Lawrenceville, GA. In addition to caring for family and serving in the community, she also had a long career in banking from 1948 until retirement in 2000.

Mary lived her life with an open heart and an open mind. There was always an extra seat at the kitchen table for anyone who wanted or needed it.

She loved music and dancing. She was always the first at family gatherings to dance the Lindy with her sisters, but, most of all, she loved to read. The library was her second home, and, she always had a book in hand. Mary loved to travel and meet new people. She made multiple trips to Hawaii to visit her children and grandchildren and in retirement took part in an educational tour to China.

She is predeceased by her husband Richard and her son John Jr.

She is survived by her five children, Lynne Kelley (Jack) of MA, Paul Hurd of GA, Timothy Hurd (Yoon Kim) of Hawaii, Margaret West (Michael) of GA, Matthew Hurd (Joy) of GA, daughter-in-law, Patricia Murray Hurd, seven grandchildren and two sisters; Jacqueline Lawlor Welch and Joyce Jaeger, both of NY.

The memorial service is scheduled to take place at 11am on Saturday, June 7, 2025, at St. Edwards Episcopal Church, 737 Moon Road Lawrenceville, GA 30046. Inurnment will be Monday, June 9, 2025 at 9:00AM. Travel arrangements can be made through Bereavement Travel Program at 1-800-224-4177.
