
Max Allen Ferguson of Stone Mtn. Ga. passed away on March 6th 2017. He was born Dec. 26th 1929 in Seymour, Iowa. A Celebration of Life service will be held at Park Springs Retirement Community 500 Springhouse circle, Stone Mountain, GA 30087 on Sunday March 12th at 1:00pm.
Max is survived by his devoted wife of 59 years Virginia “Ginny” Ferguson, daughter Stephanie Doerr of Athens, son Stephen Ferguson of Lawrenceville, and grandchildren Lindsey Cavin, Alli Kraeling, Ashley Ferguson, and Wesley Ferguson. He is also survived by 4 great grandchildren Taylor and Tucker Kraeling, and Micah and Ivy Cavin.
He was a Korean Veteran and served there as an Army Aviator. Max Graduated from Iowa State with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering and was also a Professional Engineer.
He spent nearly 60 years working in the railroad industry starting in 1952 with the Pennsylvania RR (PRR) in the engineering and operating departments. In 1968 PRR merged with New York Central into Penn Central. He also worked in maintenance of way department and was promoted to trainmaster and superintendent. In 1972 he moved the family to Atlanta and began working for the Federal Railroad Administration as a Regional Track Engineer until he retired in 1994. Max made 14 moves to different locations over the system in 20 years (Thankyou Ginny)! He continued to work as a railroad consultant and expert witness for 16 years into his 80’s. He was involved in numerous investigations of railroad accidents throughout the US.
Max truly enjoyed retirement, traveling, playing golf, and the many friends he made here at Park Springs.
