Ophelia (Pat) Buehler passed away on June 28, 2013. Pat Buehler attended Springfield High School in Delaware. Co., Pennsylvania where she graduated in 1946. Pat then attended Drexel University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania where she majored in Home Economics working toward a teaching degree. While at college, Pat was a member of Alpha Sigma Alpha Sorority and was also elected to Omicron Nu, Phi Kappa Phi, and Key & Triangle honor societies. Pat graduated in 1950 and married Dave Buehler, her high school sweetheart, in August, 1950. That same year, Pat accepted a teaching position at her own high school (Springfield) teaching Home Economics and working with the faculty who had been her teachers just 4 years before. It was an interesting transition and the faculty took her under their wing and were very helpful. After 4 years of teaching, Pat left teaching to begin a family. Mark David was born in 1955 followed by Kathie Susan in 1957. In 1962, the family moved to Ormond Beach, Florida as Dave was transferred to GE Aero-space Division in Daytona Beach. The following years were filled with school activities for the children. Pat became a Brownie Leader for Kathie's troop and after a time, took over as Neighborhood Chairman for Girl Scouts. This involved staffing troops and training leaders, camp procedures, etc. Pat was then appointed to the Board of Directors for Citrus Council of Girl Scouts in Orlando. This involved purchasing camp sites, cookie sale tastings and bids, and other Council business. In 1970, Pat returned to teaching at Mainland Sr. High in Daytona Beach, Fla. Pat taught 10 years until both children graduated from the University of Florida. Mark received his Medical Degree, and Kathie received her BS in Accounting. That summer, she passed her CPA Exams on first seating. Mark passed away in 1990 after completing his exams to be Board Certified in Emergency Room Medicine. Dave retired from GE in 1988 and Pat and Dave moved to the Landings in Savannah in 1992 . The new house was built and we moved in 1993. Pat & Dave took up golf and really enjoyed it. They celebrated their 62nd anniversary in 2012. In 2002, Pat had serious back surgery which prevented her from further golf activity. Pat enjoyed bridge, reading, and participating in Skidaway Methodist Church. Pat also worked at the Landings library for several years. She also enjoyed New Neighbors and served on the Board for a term running the new member coffees. The one project that Pat enjoyed a great deal was working on the committee to needlepoint kneelers for the altar rail at church. This project lasted 2 years and entailed hundreds of hours of work but the results were well worth the effort. They will serve the church and its members for many years to come. In June 2006, Dave and Pat moved to Park Springs in Stone Mountain, Georgia next to Stone Mountain Park. Pat continued to play bridge and Dave plays golf and was involved in many Member Association committees including two years as chairman of the Finance Committee. Since the back surgery in 2002, Pat's activities have been very restricted but the Park Springs community and her family helped fill the void. Pat and Dave have 6 grandchildren who light up our lives! The families are located in Atlanta, Georgia and Fort Myers, Florida, so we are fairly close by. Kathie has two children: Christy and Daniel. Cheryl remarried and now has four children: James, Matthew, and Bobby by her husband Edward, in addition to Ryan her son with her marriage to our son Mark David Buehler. A Memorial service will be held at Mountain Park United Methodist Church on Sunday July 7th at 3:00pm. Reception to meet the family will be held immediately following the service. The Church address is 1405 Rockbridge Road, Stone Mountain, GA 30087. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
