Smitty was born on July 9, 1937 in Nahunta, GA to Lucian and Annie Bell Highsmith.
He proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps in the communications division, and went on to become a career employee of Equifax where he managed various divisions and companies. He was a graduate of Georgia State University.
He had a passion for woodcrafting and was widely recognized for his work in creating scrollsaw portraits of fallen US Soldiers as gifts to the families. One newspaper article including an example of his work can be found at http://highworld.net/stuff/smittypaper.jpg
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Martha, and his son, Kevin, of Lilburn.
Memorial services will be on Monday, September 8, 2014, at 7:00pm at Hope Community Fellowship Church, 4037 Bailey Cir, Loganville, GA 30052.
