

Richard was a beloved husband to his wife Joan. Richard was well known to family and friends for his woodworking and his harmonica playing. He loved to sit and entertain everyone. He also sang with the Hi-Lo’s for years and the Chorus at Delmar Gardens.
He received a degree in Engineering from Clarkson University where he was part of the ROTC program and upon graduation joined the Army in 1957 as a 2nd Lieutenant. He served in the Army reserves for 42 years and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel. He worked for New York Air Brake Company as a salesperson, selling air brakes for trains, taught classes on them and met many business associates who also became close friends while doing this.
Richard will be deeply missed by his wife Joan Burkhard Gray of 70 years, daughters Lynne Gray Greenway and husband Dennis Greenway, Lori Gray Beaver and husband Winston Beaver, Robbin Gray Boone and husband Jeff Boone and their only son, Ric Gray. They also have 8 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren.
A funeral will be held on Saturday, September 5, 2026, with the viewing from 11am to 1pm with the service to follow, then to the gravesite, at Eternal Hills Funeral Home located at 3594 Stone Mountain Hwy, Snellville, 30039, to celebrate Richard’s life and honor his contributions to our world.
