Bob Moreno departed this life on January 6, 2021, after 92 years of bringing love, joy and much, much laughter to all he encountered. Born November 15, 1928, in New Orleans, he grew up with a love of music and good food. He served in the merchant marines, studied electrical engineering at LSU and proudly and bravely served in the U.S. Navy on board the USS Hopewell during the Korean War. After returning home, he married Eva Nell Moore of Bryson City. He was a dedicated husband and father – raising two kids and two boxers (both named Thor). Bob was the consummate handyman and for his friends and neighbors he fixed more toasters, vacuums, TVs, stereos, lawn mowers, washer/dryers and other household appliances than could ever be counted – all at no cost and with an appreciative smile for being allowed to help. Bob had a highly successful 35-year career at the Perkin-Elmer Corporation where he started as a maintenance technician and rose into sales, sales management and regional management. In retirement, Bob and Nell enjoyed travels to Spain, Italy, France, Monaco, Switzerland, Germany, England, Scotland and Wales until Nell’s death in 2000. Bob was an avid tennis player throughout his life – even winning a seniors’ tournament at 79. In later years, he took up ballroom dancing, which is where he met his second wife, Judy Monaghan. Thankful for her love and companionship, they enjoyed a beautiful life, first in the home they built in Buford, later as they took pleasure in their retirement community in Stone Mountain.
