Rodger Jason "R. J." Rogers, 74 of Snellville, GA passed away on December 21, 2010. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Jean Faulkner Rogers, 3 children: Jon Kyle Rogers, Cynthia Karin Landes (Kirk), Susan Kimberly Ford (Charles); 3 grandchildren: Christopher Hampton, Ashley Hampton and Chandler Rogers, all of Georgia; a sister, Betty Mullins (Roy) of Monroe, NC; niece, Brenda Lilly (Richard) ; and their children, Elizabeth and Walt of Wilkesboro, NC.
R. J. Rogers was a successful food broker and business owner in Georgia until his retirement in 1993. After retirement, he dedicated himself to the history and people of Wadesboro, NC where he was born and raised. He wrote a short book on Wadesboro schools, was instrumental in getting historical markers at each school, worked with his brother-in-law, Hank Wall, to preserve all things related to Wadesboro High School (WHS). The WHS museum is now part of the Historical Society of Anson County. He began a WHS newsletter 10 years ago and a website for all former classmates to keep in touch. His legacy will be his ability to reach out and touch so many.
He was a good husband, father and grandfather - they were the light of his life.
To his friends at WHS, he would say, "Don't forget to stay in touch with one another."
Funeral services will be held at Eternal Hills Funeral Home, 3594 Stone Mountain Highway, Snellville, GA 30039 on December 27, 2010 at Noon. Visitation will follow the services.
