Born April 1, 1940 to Robert Frank Matthews and Mary Atkinson Matthews of Grenada, MS, Mrs. Aeschliman attended Belhaven College. She was voted “Most Beautiful” her sophomore year both for her outward appearance and for her heart. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Education before marrying the love of her life, Richard “Ash” Aeschliman, June 17, 1962. Together, they spent 49 years building a life in service to the Lord.
Mrs. Aeschliman’s chief end throughout her life was in keeping with the Westminster Catechism, “to glorify God and enjoy Him forever.” She lived out her faith in many roles. She had a passion for gardening and knitting. Her mother taught her beautiful handiwork, and she often would knit gifts for others. As a pastor’s wife, she was a faithful partner in serving their congregation. Her home was always open providing endless hospitality. The fellowship led to much laughter around the table. As a young mother, she joyfully taught her children the gospel of Jesus Christ as their Savior and Lord, and was a prayer warrior for them on a daily basis. She was their biggest fan at every school play, sporting event, and special ceremony. She was also a doting grandmother to ten grandchildren who appropriately called her “Honey”. She taught them piano, modeled compassion and kindness, and showered them with affection. She, again, used her heart’s capacity to cheer these children on, not only at various sporting events, but also to the foot of the Cross. Her unconditional love and devotion to her family was unmeasured.
In her career, she was a gifted teacher. She taught piano, Sunday School, high school English and English as a second language. This was her mission field. She took a special interest in each student and loved seeing them attain new goals. This love was reciprocated, and, again, laughter would abound in her classroom. She also travelled to China, Ecuador, and Peru on short term mission trips to teach English and spread the Good News.
Sandra Aeschliman’s survivors include her husband of almost 50 years, Richard (Ash), of Stone Mountain; her children: Missy Lochstampfor and her husband Michael of Gainesville, GA; Libby Dunahoo and her husband John of Lawrenceville, GA; Rich Aeschliman, Jr. of Peachtree City, GA; and Rachel McVey and her husband Will of Braselton, GA; nine grandchildren, nieces and nephews. After a courageous battle with cancer, her soul has found its resting place in the glory of Emmanuel’s land. She has fought the good fight and has finished the race. To Him be all the praise
